Understanding Kingz sizes
A0 – A5 · Adult standard
The baseline scale for most practitioners. Higher numbers add room throughout — chest, sleeves, and pants. A0–A1 for lighter, slimmer frames; A2 is the most common size on the mat; A3–A5 for broader builds and taller athletes.
L variant · Long
Same torso width as the base size, with longer sleeves and pant legs. Built for tall, lean frames with long arms and narrow shoulders. An A2L fits tall and slim where a standard A2 would leave sleeves short.
H variant · Husky
Adds width through the chest, shoulders, and lapel without excessively long pant legs. Better for broader, thicker builds. An A2H fits someone shorter but heavier through the torso.
F prefix · Women's
Proportioned with narrower shoulders and a more tapered waist. Adjusts geometry, not quality. All F-sized gis are designed specifically for women's proportions.
M prefix · Youth
Scaled for younger practitioners without excess bulk. Sized to allow for growth over time. M0000 is the smallest; M4 is the largest youth size before stepping into adult A0 or F0.
02
How to measure
Step 1 — Weight
Start here — always
Weight determines how the jacket wraps across your torso. It is the single most important measurement. If you are between two sizes, follow weight before height.
Step 2 — Height
Fine-tune length
Height refines sleeve and pant length only. Once weight anchors the jacket size, height determines whether you pass competition inspection. Measure barefoot against a wall.
Step 3 — Between sizes?
Follow your weight
If height and weight point to different rows, follow your weight. If you have long arms, consider an L variant. When in doubt, size up — you can shrink a gi, but you can't reverse one that's too small.
Tie-breaker
Let your game decide
Pressure passers and top players benefit from sizing down — less fabric to grip. Guard players and dynamic movers benefit from sizing up — more freedom through hips and shoulders.

Common sizing questions
What if I'm between two sizes?
Follow your weight first. If you're lighter for your height, consider an L variant. If broader or heavier, an H variant will give a more accurate fit. When all else fails, size up — you can shrink a slightly large gi, but you cannot reverse one that's too small.
Should a new gi feel tight or loose?
Close but not restrictive. Expect slight shrinkage after the first few washes. Sleeves and pants should sit near wrists and ankles without limiting shoulder or hip movement. If it feels confined on the rack, it will only get worse after washing.
How much will my Kingz gi shrink?
It depends on the model. The Kore, ONE, Nano, and Legends Never Die are partially pre-shrunk and may shrink 3–5% with heat exposure. The Ultralight and Balistico are fully pre-shrunk and will shrink no more than 1–2%. Cold washing and air drying minimise changes across all models.
Is it better to size up or size down?
If unsure, size up. A slightly large gi can be shrunk into shape. A gi that is too small will remain restrictive and may fail IBJJF measurement standards at competition. Your game style can serve as the deciding factor — pressure passers size down, guard players size up.
Do Kingz gis fit differently to other brands?
Yes. Cut, weave, and manufacturing tolerances vary between brands. Always compare your measurements to the Kingz size chart for the specific model you are purchasing, rather than relying on your usual size from another brand.
